How to Build A Successful FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy

Table of Contents

When outlining your content calendar, seasonal occasions don’t really seem like they require much planning. You plan to publish a couple of celebratory “Ramadan Kareem” or “Eid Mubarak” posts, and you’re done. Unfortunately, that’s exactly how FMCG seasonal marketing efforts get ignored.

Successful seasonal campaigns do much more than acknowledge the occasion. They give consumers a reason to use, buy, or remember your products within that specific season.

Need insight into how to do that? Keep reading as we reveal our best strategies for planning high-performing seasonal FMCG campaigns across MENA.

What is FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy In MENA?

The concept of seasonality in FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy In MENA

Unlike many industries, the commercial performance of the FMCG sector doesn’t follow the same purchasing patterns throughout the year. Instead, consumer priorities shift with different seasonal shopping periods, creating new opportunities for specific product categories.

Across the MENA region, four major seasonal periods shape grocery purchasing decisions:

  • Ramadan: Pantry stock-ups, family gatherings, home-cooked meals, and traditional Iftar dishes and preparations.
  • Eid: Desserts, entertaining guests, gifting, and premium food products.
  • Summer Holidays: Refreshing beverages, frozen products, light snacks, and outdoor consumption occasions.
  • Back-to-School: Lunch-box ideas, quick breakfast and dinner solutions, and convenient family meals.

Other important consumption periods include major sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup, AFC Asian Cup, and AFCON. Although these don’t occur every year, they create temporary demand for categories like snacks, soft drinks, and ready-to-serve food for home viewing occasions.

Why FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy Matters for Brands in MENA?

Reasons Why FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy Matters for Brands in MENA

These seasonal periods shouldn’t catch brands off guard. They are predictable commercial opportunities that can be planned months in advance.

Visa’s retail spending analysis found that grocery spending in Egypt (a major MENA market for FMCG products) increases before Ramadan as households stock up. The report also highlights that overall consumer spending reaches its highest levels around Eid Al-Fitr, with a 15% increase.

For FMCG brands, this means seasonal campaigns should start much earlier by preparing festive packaging, QR-driven gamification experiences, celebratory content, and limited-edition products.

How We Plan A Winning Seasonal Campaign Strategy for FMCG Brands

How FMCG360 Plans A Winning Seasonal Campaign Strategy for FMCG Brands

With our clients, regardless of their different products, we always rely on the 6 content pillars for FMCG brands in MENA. We implement these pillars into a complete campaign system that revolves around consumption moments and retail velocity.

Before working on visuals or blogs for Ramadan campaigns for FMCG brands in MENA, we seek answers to vital questions:

  • Which products deserve the biggest marketing investment this Ramadan?
  • Which SKUs will retailers promote?
  • Are there new listings or retailer activations we need to support?
  • Which consumption occasions should the campaign own?
  • What business objective should this campaign achieve?

The answers determine not only what content we produce, but also when it should appear, which platforms it belongs to, and how we will measure its success.

For instance, if the objective is encouraging pantry stock-ups before Ramadan, our campaign focuses on recipe inspiration and family meal occasions. If the goal is introducing a limited-edition Ramadan gift box, we shift the focus toward hospitality traditions and gifting ideas

Building the Ramadan campaigns for MENA FMCG Brands Backwards

In our Ramadan content planning meetings, we don’t ask, “What should we post this Ramadan?” The main question is: “What should be ready before Ramadan season kicks off?” Our favorite preparation time is usually around 8 weeks before the main event.

1- 8 Weeks Before Ramadan

We define the campaign goals and priority SKUs. During this discussion, we determine whether our client needs an awareness campaign or support product trials. Depending on that, we define the central campaign messaging and concept. Then, we tie our plans to retailer promotions and the main consumption occasions we want the brand to own.

2- 4 Weeks Before Ramadan

As the occasion approaches, we activate our influencer vetting standards for creator collaborations and UGC production. We look for individuals who are most relevant to the brand we are working on. It’s not a matter of follower count as much as it is credibility and market penetration.

After collecting different pieces of lifestyle content, we prepare multiple creative variations for different objectives. At the same time, we finalize paid media creatives and campaign assets.

3- 2 Weeks Before Ramadan

This is when we start our awareness campaigns to influence purchase decisions. This must come before consumers complete their first major pantry stock-ups. Through social media and the client’s website, we launch a series of educational content. This includes lifestyle videos, recipe ideas, retailer announcements, and seasonal offers.

4- During Ramadan

We treat this as the moment of truth, as we track the performance of our content across channels. We decide which boosted assets should remain active and which should be paused or optimized based on audience behavior. Our social media team also focuses on community engagement, responding to consumer questions. The team also remains present with timely content around emerging Ramadan trends and discussions.

Our St. Dalfour Arabia Example for FMCG Seasonal Marketing Strategy

Our Ramadan campaign for St. Dalfour Arabia wasn’t built around a single creative idea. Instead, we developed a complete seasonal content ecosystem centered around how regional MENA consumers actually experience the festive and spiritual occasion.

Recipe videos demonstrated different serving ideas for Iftar desserts and Suhour meals. We also introduced dedicated Ramadan gift boxes that repositioned the same fruit spreads as premium gifts for family visits and hospitality traditions. Instead of changing the product, we changed the purchasing occasion and usage context.
